Conde Valdemar Edicion Limitada
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Strength, breed, maturity, texture, structure, complexity, elegance…and more!
- The experience and enthusiasm of five generations are consolidated in the production of Conde Valdemar Edicion Limitada, an iconic wine, and an exclusive selection of Jesús Martínez Bujanda (fourth generation of the Valdemar Family).
- Finding the most unique soils and the best plots of native varieties with a genuine character are the cornerstones on which this wine was created.
Varietal: 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 5% Maturana
Elaboration: Grapes are strictly selected and hand-picked at the most iconic family-owned plots in Rioja Alavesa, including La Recaja (Tempranillo planted in 1979), Balcón de Pilatos (Maturana) and Las Seis Alhajas (Graciano). This wine spent 25 months in 225-liter barrels of different finegrained French (60%) and American oaks (40%).
Tasting Notes: It displays a bright and deep bigarreau cherry colour. Intense aromas of black fruit and fresh licorice, with balsamic notes and subtle spices like clove, with a background of tobacco leaf and cedar. On the palate, it is balanced, with a silky entry and hints of fresh spices and licorice. Structured, with vibrant acidity and a very elegant and saline finish characteristic of the limestone soils from which it comes.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND
“Always pioneering” is Bodegas Valdemar’s motto. Five generations of the Valdemar family in Rioja, Spain, have remained committed to producing wines reflecting the diversity of their vineyards. For over 135 years, the family has incorporated innovative initiatives like creating the first barrel-fermented white wine and the first Tempranillo white. They have also been instrumental in recovering varietals presumed to be extinct, such as the Maturana grape and the Granciano variety.
In 2019, they established the first non-American winery in Washington State, led by siblings Jesús and Ana Martínez Bujanda, CEO and COO of Valdemar Estates. Under the “inherited know-how” they received from previous generations, the innovative winemakers have turned their land into sustainable wine agroecosystems, using organic matter to improve fertility, cover crops, pheromones to control pests, varietal diversity, biological corridors, and native forests, resulting in an the International “Wineries for Climate Protection” certification. This designation’s four pillars align with the Bodegas Valdemar commitment to reducing the carbon footprint, using renewable energies, and managing water while reducing waste.
