Conde Valdemar Rioja Tempranillo Blanco

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Conde Valdemar Tempranillo Blanco, is a young white wine produced by Bodegas Valdemar in the Rioja region of Spain.
  • It is made from a naturally occurring white mutation of the red Tempranillo grape, resulting in a wine with distinctive tropical fruit aromas and a rich, full-bodied character.
  • It is considered a unique and innovative offering from the winery. Its tropical and floral nuances inspire the sensory journey of this genuinely Rioja wine.

Varietal: 100% Tempranillo

Elaboration: Hand-picked. Fermentation at 16ºC in stainless steel tanks and ageing for 4 months on fine lees until its bottling.

Tasting Notes: This white wine shows an attractive pale yellow color with greenish hues. Clean and bright. It displays intense aromas of aromatic herbs, such as fennel and spearmint, alongside notes of melon, pear, pineapple and a touch of elderflower. On the palate, it is smooth, with a fresh and balanced journey, highlighting flavors of white fruit and melon, complemented by notes of tropical fruits, which add an exotic dimension. It finishes with a long, saline aftertaste, a reflection of its limestone origin. A refreshing and harmonious experience.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

“Always pioneering” is Bodegas Valdemar’s motto. Five generations of the Valdemar family in Rioja, Spain, have remained committed to producing wines reflecting the diversity of their vineyards. For over 135 years, the family has incorporated innovative initiatives like creating the first barrel-fermented white wine and the first Tempranillo white. They have also been instrumental in recovering varietals presumed to be extinct, such as the Maturana grape and the Granciano variety.

In 2019, they established the first non-American winery in Washington State, led by siblings Jesús and Ana Martínez Bujanda, CEO and COO of Valdemar Estates. Under the “inherited know-how” they received from previous generations, the innovative winemakers have turned their land into sustainable wine agroecosystems, using organic matter to improve fertility, cover crops, pheromones to control pests, varietal diversity, biological corridors, and native forests, resulting in an the International “Wineries for Climate Protection” certification. This designation’s four pillars align with the Bodegas Valdemar commitment to reducing the carbon footprint, using renewable energies, and managing water while reducing waste.
