Lunaria Ramoro Pinot Grigio Ancestral Pet Nat Brut Nature

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The vineyards are located in the Terre di Chieti IGP appellation of Abruzzo.
  • The rope binding on the neck of the bottle is a throw back to Abruzzian culture, where the old-country style rope is used to seal the bottle.
  • Produced from organically grown grapes, biodynamic and vegan certified.

Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Grigio

Elaboration: Ancestral Method a.k.a. Méthode Ancestrale, Méthode Rurale, Pétillant Naturel (a.k.a. “Pet-nat”). The fermentation is paused mid-way and then wines are bottled without adding additional sugar or yeast and the fermentation finishes in the bottle. No disgorgement and no Dosage. Native Yeast, bottle fermentation, Brut Nature (Residual <2.5g/l).

Tasting Notes: Aromas and favors of strawberries, ripe pear, and apple. Lees contact creates complexity and aromatic intensity.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Cantina Orsogna is a (very) progressive cooperative of thirty one growers in Italy’s central province of Abruzzo.  The company was one of the first of its kind to move to 100% organic farming back in 2002, and they are the largest Biodynamic wine producer in Italy, having been certified by Demeter since 2005.  We are currently working with their fruit-forward, sometimes experimental “Lunaria” line which showcases single varietal bottlings from grapes well-suited to the climate of the coastal Terre di Chieti sub-region.

These are exuberantly fruity wines, and that is the whole point.
