Mandala Pinot Noir
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Established by the Smedley family, Mandala Wines is a five-star James Halliday-rated Yarra Valley winery.
- Mandala Yarra Valley Pinot Noir is handpicked from Mandala’s premium Pinot Noir vineyard in Yarra Junction and the Dixon’s Creek vineyard.
Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Noir
Elaboration: Six separate small batches were cold soaked for up to 4 days prior to 100% whole berry fermentation in open pot vessels. Hand plunging and some pigéage was utilized during ferment for controlled flavor and tannin extraction. Predominantly ferments were inoculated with Burgundian selection yeast strains, however, some batches fermented naturally. 9-months barrel maturation in 25% new French oak (75% puncheon and 25% barriques) prior to bottling.
Tasting Notes: A brightly aromatic profile of cranberry, red current and violets combines with lifted tobacco notes and subtle savory gamey nuance. A generously fruited palate of dark cherries, blueberries and red liquorice is supported by cinnamon and white pepper spice. Structurally the wine offers dusty, fine malleable tannins.
Located in the picturesque Yarra Valley, Mandala Wines have proudly crafted wines of character and finesse since 1999. Established by the Smedley family, Mandala has two sites under vine: one at Dixons Creek, where the Cellar Door complex and glasshouse DiVino Ristorante is based, and the other at Yarra Junction in the Upper Yarra Valley region.
Both sites produce wine varietals that excel in the region; Dixons Creek is home to a mix of classic varieties, while the Yarra Junction vineyard was carefully selected for premium Pinot Noir production. Mandala Wines merges the qualities that make up the balance of ‘the good life’ – the love of family, food and wine; the best recipe for embracing and savoring life.
