Moschioni schioppettino

Moschioni Schioppettino Colli Orientali

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Minimal environmental impact. No herbicide or desiccant. Only organic fertilizers.
  • Grapes are hand-harvested.
  • The Schioppettino grape was nearly lost to extinction following the phylloxera epidemic of the late 19th century.

Varietal Composition: 100% Schioppettino

Elaboration: Moschioni Schioppettino Collli Orientali is manually harvested from early to mid-October. It ages 12 months in barriques, 48 months in large oak barrels followed by 12 months of bottle-ageing

Tasting Notes: Moschioni Schioppettino Collli Orientali is an amazing ruby red with purple shades. Aromas of brandied cherries and blackberries emerge from its explosive aromatic profile. Right after it reveals a typical spicy note of pepper and cloves which gradually turns into an elegant scent of cocoa and coffee beans. It is dense, rich and plush with an outstanding ripeness and depth and an extraordinary acidity which underlines its perfect balance.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

In 1989, Michael Michioni took over the Michioni Winery and decided to stake everything on the production of red wines, in an area where while wines are almost exclusively produced. He started producing native vines, almost forgotten, such as the Pignolo, the Scoppiettino, Refosco and Tezzelenghe. The vineyards have adopted organic farming and everything has to be grown and farmed as naturally as possible. The wines produced by the winery are stunning, powerful, and elegant. Today, Michael is assisted by his son, and two daughters who inherited their father’s passion for producing quality wines.
