Elaboration: Grapes for The Gaffer Shiraz have been sourced from five key vineyards in McLaren Vale; Martins, Gateway, John Rivers, Tim Hunts and Ben Riggs’ Piebald Gully Vineyard.
Since 2006 The Gaffer Shiraz has unapologetically worn its pink cap in acknowledgement of their partnership with the Flinders Foundation and their fight against cancer. Mr. Riggs Wine Co. has proudly donated $155,000 towards cancer research through proceeds of the sales of The Gaffer.
Tasting Notes: A flavorsome, medium weight, well balanced and fruit-driven Shiraz. The Gaffer Shiraz is a testament to the best of McLaren Vale. Distinctive McLaren Vale characteristics shine through with a spine of sweet, soft, warm tannins whilst on the palate is crunchy, bright, red berries. Ben Riggs, an iconic South Australian winemaker, founded Mr. Riggs Wine Co. in 2001. He holds a degree from Roseworthy Agricultural College in Adelaide and has extensive experience throughout the wine world having contributed his talents to more than 40 vintages in Australia, Napa Valley, Bordeaux, Greece, Italy, and the South of France.
