WHY WE LOVE IT
- Blend of three premium McLaren Vale vieyards: Piebald Gully, Gateway, and Martins Vineyards.
- The initials J.F.R. (John Frederick Riggs) are for Ben Riggs father and was the first wine produced under the Mr. Riggs name.
- Ben Riggs is an award winning winemaker who produces iconic wines from iconic wine regions.
Varietal Composition: 100% Shiraz
Elaboration: Mr. Riggs J.F.R. Shiraz was produced in McLaren Vale with grapes sourced from the Piebald Gully, Gateway, and Martins Vineyards. The wine was fermented in traditional open fermenters, pressed, finished fermentation in oak (80% French/35% American).
This McLaren Vale Shiraz was the first wine Ben Riggs ever made under the Mr. Riggs moniker. First made in 2001, it wasn’t until the 2018 vintage that we decided on a name fitting of this powerful McLaren Vale Shiraz. The initials J.F.R. (John Frederick Riggs) are for Bens’ late father, the reason he makes wine.
Tasting Notes: This Shiraz is full flavored with juicy dark red berries, hints of spice, earth, tar and leather, with seamlessly integrated oak. Mouthcoating tannins are apparent but not overwhelming, meaning this is a wine which can be enjoyed now or in the next 15 years.
