Orso

Orso

Orso means “Bear,” a traditional first name for boys in Corsica. According to ancient beliefs, the name will protect them from evil. The wine that carries the Orso label is a collaboration between les Vignerons d’Aghione, a Corsican wine cooperative, and Adionis, a boutique wine and spirit agency that represents more than 70 select estates in France and around the world. It was founded in 2018 by Quentin Heller.

Les Vignerons d’Aghione is a 700-hectare winery founded in 1975 by 12 wine-producing families. The vineyards are sited in the Terroir of Aghione in Western Corsica. The terroir is located near the sea with sandy soils composed of alluvium. Excellent drainage allows the production of fresh and elegant wines.

The town of Aghione was well known in Roman times for it’s sulphurous baths, reported to have medicinal properties. Today, only the ruins remain.

The Orso winemaking team, with 15 years of expertise honed through experimentation and research, produces elegant and distinctive rosés. The grapes are night-harvested to preserve their freshness and the must is cold-stabilized to preserve the spicy and fruity characteristics of Corsican grape varieties. The wines are certified vegan. Orso complies with level three of the High Environmental Value (HEV) certification and the state-of-the-art cellar is IFS certified.
