WHY WE LOVE IT

  • A gorgeous example of native Corica by way of the Patrimonio grape from the Ile de Beauté appellation, which sits wedged between the Mediterranean Sea and Corsica’s steep coastal mountains.

Varietal Composition: 80% Niellucciu, 20% Grenache

Elaboration: The Orso winemaking team, using state-of-the-art production and cellaring facilities, produce elegant and distinctive wines.

Tasting Notes: The nose offers a fresh bouquet of red and dark fruits, Maquis (the Corsican Garrigue) as well as mineral hints. The mouth is lush, fresh with a crunchy fruit and dark fruits and balsam finish.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Orso means “Bear,” a traditional first name for boys in Corsica. According ancient beliefs the name will protect them from evil. The wine that carries the Orso label is a collaboration between les Vignerons d’Aghione a Corsican wine cooperative and Adionis, a boutique wine and spirit agency that represents more than 70 select estates in France and around the world. It was founded in 2018 by Quentin Heller.

Les Vignerons d’Aghione is a 700-hectare winery founded in 1975 by 12 wine-producing families. The vineyards are sited in the Terroir of Aghione in Western Corsica. The terroir is located near the sea with sandy soils composed of alluuium. Excellent drainage allows the production of fresh and elegant wines.
