Owen Roe Chardonnay DuBrul

Owen Roe ‘DuBrul Vineyard’ Chardonnay

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The Owen Roe ‘DuBrul Vineyard’ Chardonnay is from the Eastern edge of Yakima Valley in Washington.
  • The 2021 vintage posed unique challenges for Owen Roe, beginning with an early budbreak and a June “heat dome” exceeding 115°F. They protected the grape clusters with leaf cover, keeping them fresh. Thankfully, a cooler summer led to an early and promising harvest. It was quite an adventure!

Varietal: 100% Chardonnay

Elaboration: This wine was whole-cluster pressed and remained primarily in neutral barrels for 9 months before bottling to preserve its freshness.

Tasting Notes: Bright white peach aromas with savory hazelnut notes. Flavors of tropical fruits and white pepper lead to a silky, rich, fruity finish.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Owen Roe winery, located in the Pacific Northwest, is known for its high-quality, terroir-driven wines and deep Irish roots. Founded in 1999 by David O’Reilly and his wife, Angelica, the winery emphasizes minimal intervention and storytelling that reflects Irish culture. Named after 17th-century Irish patriot Owen Roe O’Neill, each wine label narrates a tale from Irish lore and family history.

The estate specializes in outstanding wines from the Willamette and Yakima Valleys, partnering with over a dozen vineyards for the finest fruit. They feature two distinct brands—Growers Guild and Corvidae Wine Co.—to complement the Owen Roe wines.
