Paritua

Paritua is located in the heart of the acclaimed Bridge Pa Triangle wine region of Hawke’s Bay, on the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island. The name Paritua refers to the Paritua Stream, which meanders gently through the vineyard. Paritua means the meandering stream above the ancient river.

The winery was founded by an American couple and planting of the vineyard began in 2003. The choice of rootstock was inspired by the wines of Burgundy and Bordeaux. In 2011, the winery was sold to an international company, which is committed to maintaining the high quality Paritua is known for.

Winemaker Jason Stent, a Hawke’s Bay native, developed his passion for wine in France and came home to study and perfect his craft. His overarching focus is to produce wine that respects the soil.

The 120-acre vineyard is planted over the historical riverbed of the nearby Ngaruroro River which flowed through prior to an 1860s earthquake. The site is all gravel soil with gentle contours and is surrounded by hills. Long, lingering summers and clear, crisp winters offer exceptional conditions for growing exceptional grapes. A full overhead sprinkler system provides frost protection.

Every aspect of the winery was carefully considered, and the winemaking operation had to be not only efficient but also sustainable and echo the environment.
