Penley Estate is a premier, family-owned winery located in the heart of the Coonawarra wine region in South Australia. The estate’s vineyards are situated on Coonawarra’s famous “Terra Rossa” strip, known for its highly sought-after red-brown topsoil overlaying a limestone base. Penley Estate specializes in producing premium, fruit-forward wines, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and red blends.

Adopting a holistic and sustainability-focused approach to viticulture, Penley Estate is certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia. Their farming practices emphasize precision technology, natural soil health, and biodiversity to enhance the region’s soil. All of Penley’s wines are estate-grown and certified by The Vegan Society.

Penley Estate boasts a unique heritage, originating from the collaboration of two of Australia’s pioneering wine families—the Penfolds and the Tolleys. The name “Penley” is a portmanteau that combines “Penfold” and “Tolley.” Founded in 1988, the estate is currently owned and operated by fifth-generation sisters Ang and Bec Tolley, under the guidance of winemakers Kate Goodman and Lauren Hansen.

Penley Estate manages approximately 80-90 hectares of vineyards that thrive in the region’s cool, maritime climate. This environment allows the vines to produce grapes with exceptional flavors and color intensity.
