Pennys-Hill-The-Specialized

Penny’s Hill “The Specialized”

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Blending Shiraz from the elevated, narrow rows of Penny’s Hill Vineyard with juicy Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grown on the black biscay soils of Goss Corner Vineyard, ‘THE SPECIALIZED’ is produced.
  • A wine of special character; showing volume, structure, and approachability.

Varietal Composition: Shiraz 50%, Cabernet Sauvignon 32%, Merlot 18%

Elaboration: Shiraz is sourced from the narrow planted, high-density vines of the Penny’s Hill Vineyard and is combined with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from our Goss Corner Vineyard grown on the black, cracking ‘Bay of Biscay’ clay soil. Hand-tended parcels were harvested separately between mid-March to early April.

Tasting Notes: A seamless wine showing an array of dark plum, blueberry and cherry with hints of cedar, dried herb and anise all adding complexity. The palate continues to shine and offers flavorsome, spicy Shiraz fruit, balanced perfectly by fine, long Cabernet Sauvignon tannins and soft, juicy Merlot flavors. The French oak is finely balanced to add depth and class to produce a wine with persistence and poise.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Penny’s Hill was founded in 1988 on the rolling foothills east of McLaren Vale in South Australia and named after an adjacent hill. Its prized piedmont position offers commanding views over the waters of Gulf St. Vincent. Founded by Tony Parkinson, he has passed ownership and management to the Randall Wine Group.

Vines were planted in 1991 in a unique narrow-row configuration to maximize vineyard productivity and grape and wine quality. In 1993, Malpas Road, a newly-planted property, was purchased, followed by an adjacent highly prized vineyard called Goss Corner. Later, the original Goss family homestead, “Ingleburne” was added to complete the 32-hectare estate.
