Il Palazzone “Le Due Porte” Brunello de Montaicino
WHY WE LOVE IT
- This wine is produced from grapes sourced from the Le Due Porte vineyard, which surrounds the cellar at an impressive elevation of 540 meters above sea level.
- It maintains the characteristic structure of a Brunello “vecchio stampo” and embodies finesse and elegance.
- Vinified to leverage its notable tannins and acidity, it is designed to evolve beautifully over the next decade and beyond.
- Drinks well in its youth while holding the promise of beautiful aging.
Varietal Composition: 100% Sangiovese
Elaboration: The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted optically before being naturally fermented in 50 HL wooden barrels in a gravity-fed cellar. It ages for 38 months in traditional large Slavonian “botti” and an additional 51 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, totaling over three years of maturation. Per D.O.C.G. regulations for Brunello, it must also age for a minimum of four months in the bottle before release. The vines used range from 10 to 45 years old.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of ripe cherries and dark berries, typical herbaceous notes, floral notes of violets, and balsamic notes. The fruitiness of the berries repeats on the palate, accompanied by a mouthwatering juiciness that balances the tannins and makes this wine very enjoyable, even when enjoyed in its youth.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND
Il Palazzone, a boutique winery minutes from the town of Montalcino, produces Brunello di Montalcino in a traditional style. Owners, Kirsten and Peter Kern who are originally from the U. S., grow grapes in three separate areas allowing for the fullest and most balanced expression of Montalcino’s diverse terroir and microclimates. In addition, the vineyard adjacent to the cantina is a very special, high altitude parcel, a portion of which has been bottled as the cru Le Due Porte since 2015. The estate also produces Rosso del Palazzone, a versatile 100% Sangiovese non-vintage wine.
