• Quinta do Vesúvio Vintage Port is a powerful, concentrated, and highly regarded wine from a historic Douro Valley estate owned by the Symington family since 1989.
• Quinta do Vesúvio is the last major estate in the region producing Vintage Ports exclusively through foot treading in granite lagares. This tradition has been maintained since 1827, with only two interruptions during the pandemic.
• The vineyards, established in the 1970s, face north and northwest at altitudes up to 500 meters, thriving even in challenging conditions.

Varietal Composition: 35% Touriga Franca, 33% Touriga Nacional, 15% Sousão, 12% Alicante Bouschet, 5% Tinta Amarela

Elaboration: Hand-harvested grapes from certain vineyards are traditionally foot-trodden in stone lagares to extract color and flavor, then fortified to stop fermentation and boost alcohol content.

Tasting Notes: This is a powerful, attention-grabbing wine, with taut muscularity. It offers magnificent aromas of rock rose, mint, and hints of ginger. The substantial palate is full of expressive black fruit notes lifted by peppery schist tannins (the ‘seasoning’ provided by the Sousão). The long, lingering aftertaste indicates impressive ageing potential.

Quinta do Vesúvio is a well-known estate in the Douro Valley, celebrated for producing Vintage Ports through traditional foot treading in granite lagares, a practice that has been maintained since 1827.The estate’s history began with António Bernardo Ferreira and flourished under the leadership of Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira. In 1989, it was purchased by the Symington family.

The vineyards, which were established in the 1970s, thrive at altitudes reaching up to 500 meters, resulting in wines of exceptional depth. Quinta do Vesúvio continues to honor its legacy with its historic winery and time-honored production methods.
