Ruby Vineyard Gamay Noir Rosé

Ruby Vineyard Gamay Noir Rosé

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The grapes were sourced from Scotch Church Vineyard in the North Willamette Valley, 13 miles away from the Ruby Vineyard winery.
  • The winemaker, Andrew Kirkland, personally selected the site as an ideal place to grow Gamay Noir in the valley. The vines were planted there in 2016.

Varietal Composition: 100% Gamay Noir

Elaboration: Half of the grapes were direct pressed, whole cluster. Half the grapes were de-stemmed with a couple hours of skin contact. The individual lots were then blended, settled for 24 hours and racked into a combination of stainless steel tanks and neutral oak barrels (with partial ML in barrel). TA is 5.7g/l, pH is 3.38 and the Alcohol is 12.5%.

Tasting Notes: Beautiful, pale rose color and great clarity. Complex strawberry and watermelon aromas with rose petal and wet stone. Crisp and fresh with tart watermelon, raspberry and strawberry flavors that mingle with sublime, salty, wet stone on the long, juicy finish.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Ruby Vineyard is a small, vineyard and winery in the Chehalem Mountains of Oregon’s Willamette Valley region. It is owned by the Hendricks family and is located in the Laurelwood District AVA, just west of Portland.

The Hendricks family has deep roots in Oregon. In 1843, Steve Hendricks’ great-great-grandfather, Abijah Hendricks, arrived in Oregon on the first wagon train to brave the Oregon Trail. Abijah’s adventurist spirit lives on in Steve and his wife Flora. Sharing a dream of owning a vineyard and making wine, they have explored every aspect of the winemaking process, from driving a tractor to pouring for guests in the tasting room.
