Schaad Cellars

Since 1903, the Schaad family has been deeply rooted in Oregon’s farming heritage, beginning with a land grant near Newberg, Oregon. In 1953, more land was purchased and the family originally cultivated a variety of crops including walnuts, cherries, and Italian prunes. In 1980, a pivotal decision was made to plant vineyards, replacing black caps, and stone fruits. Witnessing the growing interest in Oregon Pinot Noir, Schaad Cellars steadily expanded their vineyard over the years.

Schaad Cellars practices a hands-off approach, allowing the true essence of the grapes to shine through each glass. They strive for wines with an expressive mid-palate, displaying a characteristic earthiness accented by mineral notes. Schaad Cellars considers barrel aging as essential for red wines, integrating tannins and focusing varietal characteristics.

Schaad’s commitment to sustainable farming practices is unwavering. All vines are self-rooted and dry farmed. Other techniques such as mycorrhizal fungi, worm castings, bio-char, and compost teas have been integral to their farming since 2009. Continuing tradition, their end posts are still hand-split cedar sourced from the Coastal Ranges where the family camped for over 50 years. In 2014, they embraced a no-till approach, further enhancing the health of the vineyards. Keeping the land and vines healthy is the key to Schaad Cellars great wines.
