Sherwood Estate Stoney Range Sauvignon Blanc

Sherwood Estate Stoney Range Sauvignon Blanc

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The wine has a medium bodied dry finish with typical abundant herbaceous tropical characters. The vibrant acidity creates a long lingering finish.
  • These wines are expressive with stunning fruit concentration and a character that reflects the soils and purity of the environment in which the grapes are grown.
  • Stoney Range wines are classic with a modern twist and immediately enjoyable.

Varietal Composition: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Elaboration: A slow cool fermentation is carried out over three weeks with the aim of retaining as much of the delicate floral, herbaceous fruit flavors as possible. Once completed the wine remains in tank with the yeast lees for a further three months.

Tasting Notes: Displaying aromatic gooseberry, guava and passionfruit notes, the palate is crisp, tangy and refreshing with a lengthy, citrus finish.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Sherwood Estate was founded by Dayne and Jill Sherwood in 1987. The vineyards and winery are located in the Waipara Valley, on the East coast of New Zealand’s South Island. Started as a 20-acre husband-and-wife business, it is now one of the largest independent wineries in New Zealand. In the 1980’s the New Zealand wine industry saw bumper crops and a fall in demand leading to several wineries going out of business. While many gave up, the Sherwoods saw only opportunity. The family was one of the first in the area to establish large vineyards and high-capacity winery production facilities.

Their quintessential Kiwi “can-do” attitude touches every aspect of the business, from vineyard management to building relationships with customers. They call themselves “winemakers with the personal touch.” This level of involvement allows them to maintain the very highest standards.
