Taboadella

The Amorim family has been in the wine industry since 1870, starting with cork sales to the Caves do Vinho do Porto. Today, they are a prominent family group in Portugal with diverse businesses. Since 1999, Luisa Amorim has led the fourth generation in winemaking, working at significant estates in the Douro region, such as Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, and in the Dão at the Taboadella estate, where they produce remarkable wines that reflect their terroir.

Taboadella spans 40 hectares of vineyards on a high plateau at 400 to 530 meters altitude, between Vale do Pereiro and Vale do Sequeira. With gentle southeast slopes and protection against harsh weather, the vineyards enjoy a unique microclimate. The autumn equinox signals heavy rains and occasional frost as spring ends.

The vineyards are not irrigated, which helps preserve traditional qualities and typicity across the 18 parcels in an integrated system. In the 1980s, some areas of the vineyard were replanted, introducing Tinta Roriz, Encruzado, Cereal-Branco, and Borrado das Moscas (Bical). Currently, the average age of the vines is 30 years, although some are more than 100 years old!
