Zaha Sparkling Calcaire

Zaha Sparkling Calcaire

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The grapes were grown at the Las Pareditas vineyard, which is known for its high altitude and cool microclimate.
  • The soils are unique, featuring large amounts of volcanic limestone.
  • This vineyard features old vines, contributing to this exceptional sparkling Chardonnay.
  • The vine age is 55 years.
  • Alejandro “Colo” Sejanovich & Je Mausbach is the winemaker.

Varietal Composition: 100% Chardonnay

Elaboration: Hand harvested. Whole cluster, oxidative press, no SO2. Cold decantation removes solids for natural yeast fermentation. Lees are periodically moved to keep the wine cloudy and reduced, no malolactic fermentation. 10% aged in used French oak, 12 months on lees, and no dosage added upon disgorgement, resulting in a Blanc de Blanc Nature Metodo Champenoise Sparkling.

Tasting Notes: A sparkling wine with fine and subtle bubbles alongside a creamy mouthfeel. Mineral aromas with a slight mineral aftertaste.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

In 2010, Alejandro Sejanovich and Jeff Mausbach created their first two wines, Zaha and Teho, driven by their desire to showcase the unique terroir characteristics of their Toko and Tomal vineyards. “Zaha” means “heart of the earth” in the indigenous language of the local Huarpes people, which inspired the name of Bodega Teho. Today, the winery has a growing portfolio that expands each year, thanks to ongoing research into the diverse micro-terroirs of Mendoza.
