Thurston Wolfe Zinfandel Zephyr Ridge Vineyard
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Zephyr Ridge Vineyard is located near the town of Paterson overlooking the Columbia River.
- Vines were planted in 1998 using cuttings sourced from the Foundation Plant Material Services at Davis, making them one of the very 1st producers of Zinfandel in Washington.
Varietal Composition: 100% Zinfandel
Elaboration: Harvested in late September, the wine was fermented to dryness on the skins and aged in a mixture of American and French oak for 25 months before bottling.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of bright fruit (cherry, raspberry and strawberry), plum and oak spice with full body, moderate tannins and a rich finish.
Thurston Wolfe is a small family winery owned by Wade Wolfe and Becky Yeaman, specializing in unique red & white table and dessert wines. Grapes are sourced from growers located in the Horse Heaven Hills and Yakima Valley AVA’s at sites best suited to the individual varieties. These sites and grower relationships were developed through Wade’s extensive contacts and knowledge of the region dating back to the late 1970’s.
Thurston Wolfe’s grape sourcing is based on Wade’s 40 years experience working with Washington State’s grape growers and vineyards. As the grape buyer first for Ste. Michelle in the 1980’s and later at Hogue Cellars in the 1990’s, he gained invaluable knowledge about the growing regions as well as the skill of the growers and quality of fruit.
