Twill Cellars Syrah
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Twill Cellars Syrah is sourced exclusively from Stormy Morning Vineyards (Tualatin Hills AVA), which is organically-managed and dry-farmed.
- The vineyard benefits from shallow sedimentary soil with red soils about ten feel below. It is South facing and is at low elevation. Fog rolls through late summer mornings, which impacts the grapes depth of flavor.
Varietal Composition: 100% Syrah
Elaboration: This Syrah is fermented in a 1.75 ton lot for a 3 week cuvaison. Gentle, infrequent pump-overs and punchdowns for cap management. 100% destemmed fruit. Unfined and Unfiltered. Bottled following 18 months in élevage. Raised in mostly neutral 228 Liter Barrels. All wood vessels are very tight grain and sourced from the highest quality and most sustainable forests in France and Austria. The length of curing and drying, paramount to quality wood, is top notch with the coopers who provide the barrels.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND
Twill Cellars is located in West Linn, Oregon, just 30 minutes south of downtown Portland. Yet it might as well be a world away. In 2000, Molly and Darrel Roby (along with their two Bernese Mountain dogs, Mica and Saylor) began their journey as growers by planting a 2.7 acre vineyard.
Chris Dickson, following studies in Psychology and Biology, spent years working for several well-regarded winemakers around the world. Jonathan Sundy, an artist who knew Chris in high school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, contributes his talents to the project.
