Twill Cellars The Color Red
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Organic wine management. All of the grapes are sourced from five vineyards, with differing viticulture areas (AVA) and unique terriors and winemaking practices. All are dryland farmed (no irrigation), with sustainable practices at the very least.
- Stormy Morning Vineyard represents 38% of this blend with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes – Uncertified organic. Dry farmed. It is responsible for citrus characteristics as well as the color, as they’re a very red-fruited site and showcases elements of blood orange most years.
- Johan Vineyard contributes 14% in Chardonnay grapes – Demeter Certified Biodynamic. Dry farmed. Their marine sediment supplies orange flavors, acidity and pronounced tannins.
- Molly’s Vineyard is Uncertified organic and dry farmed and their Pinot Noir grapes contribute 14% to the blend and gives the wine a very tart cranberry and spice flavors.
- Bracken Vineyards Pinot Noir makes up 13% in dark Pinot Noir notes attained from their Volcanic soils. Uncertified organic and dry farmed.
- Vojtilla Vineyard makes up the final 8% with chardonnay grapes – Uncertified organic and dry farmed. Their grapes offer notes of citrus blossoms and nectarine.
Varietal Composition: 60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir
Elaboration: The wine was fermented and raised in old chardonnay barrels. Partial malolactic completion, and lightly filtered prior to bottling. No inoculations for both primary and secondary fermentations.
Tasting Notes: Vibrant red color. Citrus, nectarine, and orange aromas and flavors. Floral notes. This wine has dark Pinot Noir notes as well and is very red-fruit driven, with tart cranberry and spice flavors.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND
Twill Cellars is located in West Linn, Oregon, just 30 minutes south of downtown Portland. Yet it might as well be a world away. In 2000, Molly and Darrel Roby (along with their two Bernese Mountain dogs, Mica and Saylor) began their journey as growers by planting a 2.7 acre vineyard.
Chris Dickson, following studies in Psychology and Biology, spent years working for several well-regarded winemakers around the world. Jonathan Sundy, an artist who knew Chris in high school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, contributes his talents to the project.
