Valle Martello

Valle Martello

The Valle Martello winery was founded by Giuseppe Masci in 1956. It is located in the village of Villamagna in the Abruzzo region on the southeastern coast of Italy. It lies just about seven miles from the Adriatic Sea and is flanked on the southwest by the Majella Mountains. The name “Villamagna” means “great mansion.” It refers to the 16th-century Archbishop Palace that overlooks the valley.

The winery is situated in the relatively tiny Villamagna DOC appellation. Since 2000, five cousins, representing a third generation, have been managing the estate. They are committed to practicing the ancient wine-making traditions of Giuseppe enhanced by the technology of today.

The vineyards span 50 hectares encompassing two hilltops, which face each other in a north-south orientation. The climate is favorable, and the soil is fertile. Grapes are harvested by hand when fully ripe. Careful selection and precise vinification allow the distinctive characteristics of each variety to be preserved. Wines are aged in oak barrels where they acquire complexity and structure.
