Vignerons de Saumur Rouge "Les Pouches"

Vignerons de Saumur Rouge “Les Pouches”

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The subsoil consists of the same tufa limestone that was used to build the famous Loire Valley castles.
  • Cabernet Franc tends to thrive on these limestone soils.
  • The average age of these grape vines are 40 years.

Varietal Composition: 100% Cabernet Franc

Elaboration: Bottled early and stored in the cellars dug out of the tufa, where it continues to age in the bottle, protected from the light and temperature variations.Completely destemmed and vatted for 15-20 days, depending on the year. Fermented in temperature-controlled vats.

Tasting Notes: “Les Pouches” rouge has a beautiful, deep ruby-red color and a bouquet of red fruit (blackcurrant and raspberry). This wine is attractive and easy to drink. It is quite fruity and a bit spicy on the palate with the elegant, soft tannins that characterize it.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

In 1957, around forty winegrowers grouped together to confront the economic difficulties of the era, pooling far more than mere financial concerns. At the time, Robert, Marcel, Yvon, Geneviève and the others, hailing from the same terroir, hewn from the same rock and sharing the same time-honoured values, set up their cooperative at the top of the hill in Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg. “They chose to share their experience, their expertise, and their dreams.”
