Hermanos Hernáiz ‘El Jardin de La Emperatriz ‘ Blanco

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Viñedos Hermanos Hernaiz El Jardín de La Emperatriz Blanco is a balanced white wine from the Rioja Alta region, characterized by a 40 cm layer of white pebbles over sandy-loam soil, which enhances the wines’ elegance.
  • This terroir offers excellent drainage, ample sunlight, strong root development, and limited nutrients.
  • The vineyard primarily features bush-trained vines (80%) averaging 65 years old, with 20% trellised vines.

Varietals: 100% Viura

Elaboration: The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed. The juice rests with its lees for 36 hours before settling and fermenting in cement tanks at 15°C to 16°C. Five percent ferments in used French oak barrels for added richness. After fermentation, the wine stays with its lees, undergoing weekly bâtonnage until blending for bottling.

Tasting Notes: Delicate aromas of citrus and green apple, with hints of white flowers and pear. It features a mineral-laden acidity and a fresh, sophisticated profile, culminating in a dry finish.
