WeatherEye Vineyards
WeatherEye Vineyards is a highly acclaimed high-altitude wine estate located on the prestigious Red Mountain in Washington’s Columbia Valley AVA. The vineyard ranges in elevation from 950 to 1,430 feet. Founded by Cameron Myhrvold in 2004, WeatherEye, managed by Ryan Johnson, is known for its unique viticulture practices. The name “WeatherEye” comes from the nautical phrase “to keep a weather eye,” which means to stay attuned to nature. WeatherEye Vineyards embraces this philosophy by closely observing and responding to its environmental conditions.
Red Mountain is composed of Ice Age flood sediments. WeatherEye, which rises above the flood line, is formed from basalt and dune sands. Their winemaking practices have earned them a reputation for their extreme, innovative, growing practices in an area once considered too rugged for vineyards. Today, these ridges produce exceptional grapes that are influenced by factors such as soil, slope, wind, temperature, and low rainfall.
This challenging environment encourages the production of exceptional small-batch wines, renowned for their intensity and character. WeatherEye specializes in crafting high-quality Rhône and Spanish varietals, as well as distinctive white wines. These wines are fermented naturally and shaped with minimal intervention, using judicious amounts of new French oak to preserve the site’s expression.
WeatherEye Vineyards wines have garnered numerous accolades from reviewers across the country for their exceptional contributions to the wine industry, and the winery was named the 2022 Northwest Winery of the Year. With a strong commitment to quality and craftsmanship, WeatherEye Vineyards continuously strives to push the boundaries of winemaking.
