Bernkasteler Kues Riesling Alte Reben

Thanisch Bernkasteler Doctor Riesling Auslese

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Over a period of 15 million years, the Mosel River dug into a slated mountain range full of minerals that developed 400 million years ago. The slate erodes easily and its components decay and enrich the soil. They dissolve into the ground water and are absorbed by the vines.
  • The valuable combination of steep slopes, soil characteristics and climate presents the vines with the best possible conditions for development.

Varietal Composition: 100% Riesling

Elaboration: Many of the vineyards have a slope gradient of more than 60%. Manual labor is necessary all year round from the cultivation of the vines to harvest. The majority of the vinification of the wine takes place in the traditional, over 350 year old “Doctor cellar.“ The cellar was carved into the rock underneath the vineyard and keeps ideal conditions for the maturation and storage of the wines.

Tasting Notes: The wine offers a complex nose of grapefruit, vineyard peach and slate. Juicy and elegant it has an animating presence on the palate with a lot of minerality. Impressing the long finish. A well-structured Riesling with so much minerality!
