Strong Arms Bordeaux Red
WHY WE LOVE IT
- This is a great value red Bordeaux.
- The importer, Dan Phillips, has a history of uncovering gems from all over the world and this one is no exception.
Varietal Composition: 97.5 % Merlot, 2.5% Cabernet Franc
Elaboration: This wine comes from the Canon-Fronsac, Bordeaux region in France. The vines are 45 years old and the soils are clay limestone. This vineyard yields 43 HL/Hectare. The winemaker is Oriol Illa.
Tasting Notes: Sensual dark purple color. Ripe black cherries, truffles and a bit of dark chocolate, perhaps a hint of exotic spice. Full and round, mouth filling, with silky texture and long soft, lingering finish.
Canon-Fronsac is often called the Tuscany of Bordeaux because it is the most hilly part of the region. The vineyards for Strong Arms are at the very top of the hill and share the same soil as its rich neighbors St. Emillion and Castillon. The micro-climate is perfect for ripening Merlot and Cabernet Franc delivering ripeness and structure with silky tannins. The vines undulate with perfect exposure and surely must be one of the hidden gems of Bordeaux. There is a forest next door with truffles and a lake right in the middle of the vines.
