Viano Vineyards NV Hillside Red

Viano Vineyards Hillside Red

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Viano Vineyards are located midway between the Napa and Livermore Valleys. Situated at the inlet from the San Francisco Bay, they have warm days and cool nights, ideal for creating fine wines.
  • Hillside Red comes from Contra Costa County, east of San Francisco Bay. It is known for it’s favorable climatic conditions that are influenced by the bay and is perfect for growing deep, bold reds.
  • This is Viano Vineyards private stock red table wine. This is a reasonably priced wine from Contra Costa.

Varietal Composition: Zinfandel and Gamay

Elaboration: Hillside Red is a fine, dry, full-bodied red wine. A blend of wines pressed from red varietal grapes. Minimal oak is used allowing the fruit to fully express itself.

Tasting Notes: This elegant blend of  Zinfandel and Gamay makes for a delightfully smooth and fruity wine.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

The Conrad Viano estate, now managed by the family’s fourth and fifth generations, was founded by the Viano family in 1920. They purchased the already planted vineyard, which had been established in 1888. It reminded them of their vineyards in Piedmont, Italy. The area was named Vine Hill and was originally home to more than 15 wineries.

Some of the original vines still remain while the balance of the vineyard has been expanded and replanted to keep up with contemporary tastes and desires. Conrad Viano wines are produced using the most natural, viticultural practices possible, along with traditional winemaking techniques. All these fine handcrafted wines are made using natural yeast and aged in small oak cooperage.
