Chateau Grimont

Château Grimont

Château Grimont, built in the 17th Century, has been in the Yung family for three generations. It is situated on the right bank of Le Garonne opposite Île de la Lande and just nine miles south of the center of Bordeaux. In the 1800s, wine merchants would moor their barges at the château’s jetties to load barrels of wine.

Before the Yungs started growing wine grapes here, the beautiful château had been either the home of – or at least the inspiration for – two families of artists and writers.

Today, brothers Paul and Jean Yung own and operate Vignobles Yung, makers of the red wine “Château Grimont,” a Bordeaux-style wine representative and characteristic of the appellation. Their vineyards cover more than 120 hectares, including exquisite hillside plots, perfectly drained and protected by the mild temperate climate of the nearby Garonne. Soils are clay and gravel.

The winery practices sustainable viticulture with meticulous attention paid to every step of the process. Harvesting averages 20 days and vinification takes place in the elegant château. To maximize the potential of the grapes, the thermoregulated vats are equipped with automatic pumps working 24 hours a day. Depending on the vintage, aging in either vats or barrels lasts from 12 to 18 months.
