Chateau Moulin de Ferrand Les Geais Abouriou

Château Moulin de Ferrand Côtes du Marmandais “Les Geais”

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Château Moulin de Ferrand’s  Les Geais Côtes du Marmandais Abouriou is certified organic and vegan.
  • The grapes are grown in clay and limestone soil in an Oceanic climate.
  • The wine can be aged 5-7 years.
  • Serve at a temperature of 17-18° C or 62-65°F.

Varietal Composition: 100% Abouriou

Elaboration: Cultivation of the soil. Melliferous plants seeding. Vegetation cover seeding. The wine undergoes a 15-20 days vatting period under a controlled temperature between 22 to 28°C. The fermentation is completed thanks to the natural yeast of the grape. During this process two daily pumping over are realized to get a maximal extraction. This wine is aged 18 months in vats before bottling.

Tasting Notes: Flavors of spices as pepper, cinnamon and clove mixed with elegant red fruits. The mouth is full-bodied, rich and concentrate with strong tannins and a good length.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Eleanor of Aquitaine (then Queen of England) ordered monks to plant the first vines on this 72 hectare estate in 1150.  The property stretches over the right bank of the Garonne river across the hillsides of Saint Michel de Lapujade, and benefits from the mild and humid air that rises up from the sea and travels down the Garonne valley.

Pierre Boissonneau purchased the property in 1839, and descendants Christian, Pascal, Phillippe, and Nico have transformed it into one of the best places in Bordeaux for value driven organic wine.  Moulin de Ferrand has long been a staple for us here at Grape and if you aren’t yet familiar with these it is about time you climb aboard the train.
