Cuilleron Estate Syrah "Les Candives"

Cuilleron Syrah “Les Candives”

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Cuilleron Syrah “Les Candives” is a selection of the best vines in Chavanay.
  • Les Candives is not a district but the local name for Syrah.
  • The vineyard soils are granitic and shallow. Naturel cover cropping is used to avoid erosion.
  • No insecticides with respect of soil and vine balance, few treatments (depending on weather and the necessity) and small amount of organic fertilizer.

Varietal Composition: 100% Syrah

Elaboration: The grapes are hand- picked; and then sorted, crushed and partial destemmed in the cellar. Fermented in open top, temperature-controlled vats for about 3 weeks, with regular cap-punching and pumping-over. Alcoholic fermentation in vats with native yeasts and malolactic fermentation in barrels. Maturing : 8 months in barrels.

Tasting Notes: Gourmand and rustic wine. Dark and red fruit nose. Notes of pepper and liquorices. Fleshy on the palate, nice tannins and a velvety finish.
