Domaine la Rocalière Tavel

Domaine La Rocalière Tavel

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The vineyard for Domaine La Rocaliere Tavel is located on terraces of sandy and clayey rolled pebbles, white slate and sand (the three terroirs of the Tavel Appellation).
  • Grown in a Mediterranean type climate with mild winters and very hot summers. The region is marked by the presence of the mistral, a northwest to north corridor wind, very cold in winter and hot in summer, which drives away humidity and cleanses the vineyard. Organically grown.
  • The average vine age is 30 years.

Varietal Composition: Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvèdre

Elaboration: The alcoholic fermentation took place at low temperature (between 13° and 18°C). The grape varieties were vinified separately with the greatest care, they each bring their own typicity: Grenache brings fat and fruity; the Cinsault finesse and length; Finally, Syrah and Mourvèdre, in addition to a beautiful color and aromas of red fruits, give a beautiful longevity to the wine as they slowly develop.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Domaine la Rocalière was founded in 1995 by Jacques Borrelly, and his father, Armand Maby. The estate has become a ‘women’s business’ since 2009, as it is managed by his daughter, Séverine Lemoine, with the help of her sister, Mélanie. The cellar is located at the entrance to the village Tavel in the southern Rhône region, and their 40 hectares of vines are distributed throughout the Tavel and Lirac appellations, along with some in the commune of Pujaut. They produce their stunning red, white, and rosé wines from vines with an average age of 30 years.

Concerned with preserving their heritage, the vineyard is managed with the greatest respect for the environment. The vineyard engages organic farming practices and has been certified biodynamic since 2020.
