Vite Collte

Domaine Vite Colte

ViteColte is a grower-owned cooperative headquartered in Barolo, Italy, a village in the Province of Cuneo within the UNESCO Protected Wine Heritage region of Piedmont. It is about 50 kilometers southeast of Turin.

ViteColte means “the art of cultivating the vine.” Membership totals 180 winegrowers who cultivate 300 hectares of vines. The cooperative was founded in the 1980s as Terre da Vino and renamed ViteColte in 2016. The group strives for consistent quality stemming from innovation blended with experience, tradition, and passion.

The appeal of ViteColte wines starts in the vineyard with sustainable, selective vineyard management focused on achieving perfectly ripe fruit. Every winegrower works closely with the ViteColte’s team of agronomists and complies with the coop’s strict protocols. Vineyards must be at least 15 years old with low yields per vine. Pruning is based on the number of buds and plant nutrition is prescribed for each plot. Harvesting must be done entirely by hand with close attention paid to the date. Integrated and/or organic viticulture is mandated.

The winery, built in 2000, blends with the landscape and was awarded a prestigious architectural prize in 2006. The eco-friendly structure has been written about in numerous architectural publications. The underground aging room features a grass-covered roof, which naturally regulates temperature and reduces energy consumption. A “green” philosophy is evident in every aspect of the coop’s activities.

Along with adherence to environmental principles, the cooperative also guarantees a sustainable income to its farmers and is committed to the welfare and professional growth of its employees.
