Henri Bourgeois Sancerre Rose

Henri Bourgeois Sancerre Rosé

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • A Rosé of great freshness, which deliciously captures the subtleties of its terroir and grape variety. This 100% Pinot Noir Rosé embodies the uncompromising, vibrant style reminiscent of some of the appellation’s finest white wines. Its nuanced bouquet, marrying floral and peppery notes, introduces a palate adorned with hints of tangerine and wild strawberries
  • The vines are grown on terroir clays (65%) and limestone (35%), on the hills between Chavignol and Sancerre. The limestone gives the wine its backbone to the wine, while the clay gives it flesh. Yields are deliberately low, with high-density cultivation and inter-row grassing.
  • Its flowery finish makes it the perfect Rosé from spring to late summer.

Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Noir

Elaboration: The harvest is carefully sorted and de-stemmed before being placed in vats by gravity. Cold pre-fermentation maceration for around 48 hours. The colorless juice of the Pinot Noir (white flesh) takes on a pale pink color in contact with the skins of the grapes. Alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats (15 to 18°C). Aged on fine lees for 5 to 6 months.

Tasting Notes: Light pink color. Small red fruits and notes of white peach on the nose. Harmonious balance, with a fresh attach and crisp fruitiness; surprising length.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

For ten generations now the Bourgeois family has devoted its passion and values to Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, becoming Sancerre’s most well-known producer. The company is now led by the current generation of the family – Jean-Marie and Remi Bourgeois. The winery and family base is the village of Chavignol, and Domaine holdings can be found on a mosaic of plots throughout Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. Each plot is isolated and worked in respect of its origin to reveal, in the most precise and true way, the expression of its terroir, whether we are talking Kimmeridgian marls, flint, or limestone clay soils. We see this expressed in a dizzying array of bottlings, many of which are amongst the most sought after of their kind in the Loire each year.
