Luis XIV Anforas
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Luis XIV Anforas wine is from the Paraje de Canyada, Denomination of Origin Alicante.
- It comes from old vines planted in glass and land and is cultivated in the town of Canyada (Alicante).
- The vineyards are historical as they were planted in the 60’s, on sandy soils that provide fine and elegant wines.
- It is a wine that transmits the personality of the old Alicante wines, with the proportion of indigenous varieties that have historically been cultivated in the territory.
Varietal Composition: 60% Monastrell, 30% Arcos and 10% Bonicaire
Elaboration: Luis XIV Anforas’ elaboration process includes maturation in ceramic amphorae, made of clay from Villarrobledo cooked in old wood ovens. It spends 4 months in the ceramic amphorae.
Tasting Notes: Bright ruby color with violet hues. On the nose it is very intense and fresh, transmitting all the varietal authenticity of the Monastrell, Arcos and Bonicaire. On the palate, the purity of the fresh fruit stands out, with a light, velvety, fluid and persistent. It is a medium-bodied wine with very fine tannins.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND
In 2017, David Carbonell of Vins del Comtat and two local families living in the village of Cañada, Alicante, Spain, founded a winery they call Luis XIV. Surprisingly, its roots date back to the 1500s.
In the 1960s, a centuries-old winery ceased operations. Within the closed cellar, were 25 old barrels of wine more than 100 years old, forgotten for more than 60 years. Inside the barrels was Fondillon de Alicante, one of the most sought-after and expensive wines in the world during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It was loved by King Louis XIV of France and other 16th and 17th-century monarchs.
