Oliver’s Taranga HJ Reserve Shiraz
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Oliver’s Taranga is a tribute to Herbert John (HJ), the Oliver’s grandfather.
- Oliver’s Taranga has been in the Oliver family for six generations.
- They have a unique collection of small batch, handcrafted wines on their 100 hectare ‘Taranga’ property.
- McLaren Vale is well known for premium grape varieties.
- Corrina Wright is an award winning winemaker who produces iconic wines from McLaren Vale, an iconic wine region.
Varietal Composition: 100% Shiraz
Elaboration: Named after their grandfather Herbert John (HJ), who picked from the very best parcels of old vine Shiraz on the Taranga vineyard. It has been barrel selected and bottle aged for optimum enjoyment.
HJ was a lover and a fighter. He fought to win the affections of his sweetheart Marjorie, before serving in WWII. He then fought to realize his vision of seeing the Taranga property produce only high quality grapes. This commenced with his planting of the ‘old block’ Shiraz in 1948- the same McLaren Vale vines that form the base of this reserve Shiraz today.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of chocolate pudding, blackberry pie, mocha spice and vanilla oak. Savory spice, mocha and plummy sweetness through the palate. Full flavored, the tannins are silky and integrated, with sage and black currant characters, framing this more restrained vintage of McLaren Vale Shiraz.
