Pouya Pet Nat

Pouya Pet Nat

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Another project that came together on a lark is the 44 case production Pet Nat Remix from Fernanda Parra’s private brand “Pouya”.
  • Pouya Pet Nat comes from Valle de Guadalupe. The Anatolia vineyards were planted in 2009 at an elevation of 1,000 ft.
  • The vineyard soils consist of loamy sand.
  • It comes from ungrafted rootstock.
  • Drink now or within 3 years.

Varietal Composition: 60% Grenache, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 10% Sauvignon Blanc

Elaboration: All varieties are comingled in the vineyard, harvested by hand, then crushed, destemmed, and direct pressed without any maceration. Fermentation was kept at the lowest possible temperature to slow the process and it was bottled at 1.6 brix. Fermentation completed in the bottle and the wine was aged sur lees for 3 months before disgorging to eliminate the gross lees and filled with the same wine. No sulfites added.

Tasting Notes: Soft bubbles, with notes of watermelon, peaches and the slightest refreshing edge of orange peel.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Pouya is a woman-owned and operated boutique winery founded by Fernanda Parra in 2017. The winery is located in El Sauzal, Baja, Mexico, at the Pacific Ocean end of Valle de Guadalupe. El Sauzal, just north of Ensenada, is less than 50 straight-line miles from the U.S. border.

Fernanda is a Baja native with a degree in enology, ampelology, and viticulture from France. She gained experience in Sicily and Burgundy before becoming Assistant Winemaker at the Magoni Estate in Baja.

The name, Pouya, is an homage to her great-grandfather, a French scientist who fell in love with Baja. Fernanda’s personal project is an expression of her heritage and love for Baja’s terroir.
