Pouya Sparkling Grenache Rose

Pouya Sparkling Grenache Rosé

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • It was only a few years ago that sparkling wine was hard to find in Northern Baja, much less a decent one. That has changed entirely with many estates making sparkling wine and quite a few of them of excellent quality. That said, there are few that come close to this Brut Nature from Pouya.
  • From every angle this is a stunning wine, and the best part is that it will age incredibly well. Good luck managing to hold on to some!
  • The Pouya Rose comes from Valle de Guadalupe. The Olegario Sandoval vineyard was planted in 1969.
  • The site is dry farmed organically and sustainable practices are used. The vineyard is composed of very sandy soils. It’s elevation is 1,100 ft, approximately 15 miles from the Pacific.
  • Drink now or up to 15 years!

Varietal Composition: 100% Grenache

Elaboration: Grapes were hand harvested, destemmed directly into tank, and fermented at a low temperature. Punch downs were carried out 3 times a day 15 days of skin contact. Wine was then pressed into a second use french oak barrel where it was left to age for 4 months in with lees and light batonage.

Tasting Notes: Base wine was aged for 10 months in stainless tanks. Secondary fermentation was carried out after bottling and wines were aged for an additional 9 months before release before disgorging.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Pouya is a woman-owned and operated boutique winery founded by Fernanda Parra in 2017. The winery is located in El Sauzal, Baja, Mexico, at the Pacific Ocean end of Valle de Guadalupe. El Sauzal, just north of Ensenada, is less than 50 straight-line miles from the U.S. border.

Fernanda is a Baja native with a degree in enology, ampelology, and viticulture from France. She gained experience in Sicily and Burgundy before becoming Assistant Winemaker at the Magoni Estate in Baja.

The name, Pouya, is an homage to her great-grandfather, a French scientist who fell in love with Baja. Fernanda’s personal project is an expression of her heritage and love for Baja’s terroir.
