Pouya Tinto

Pouya Tinto

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The Pouya Tinto comes from Valle de Guadalupe. The Olegario Sandoval vineyard was planted in 1969.
  • The site is dry farmed organically and sustainable practices are used.
  • The vineyard is composed of very sandy soils. It’s elevation is 1,100 ft, approximately 15 miles from the Pacific.
  • An exceedingly light ruby colored wine whose profundity is not revealed in its depth of color. This beautiful creation is a stunning revelation for those who imagine intensity comes with depth of color extraction.
  • Drink now or up to 6 years.

Varietal Composition: 100% Grenache

Elaboration: Grapes were harvested by hand early to maintain good acidity, then vinified in method “Vinification Integrale” where the pressed juice was fermented with the skins and seeds in 500L second use French Oak barrels at low temperatures for a period of 3 weeks. Once fermentation was complete the wine was pressed and returned to the same barrel and aged for an additional 7 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Notes: Notes of black cherry, roses, and a subtle touch of leather on the nose, bright balanced red fruits and taught acidity in the mouth. Long finish with rounded tannins.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Pouya is a woman-owned and operated boutique winery founded by Fernanda Parra in 2017. The winery is located in El Sauzal, Baja, Mexico, at the Pacific Ocean end of Valle de Guadalupe. El Sauzal, just north of Ensenada, is less than 50 straight-line miles from the U.S. border.

Fernanda is a Baja native with a degree in enology, ampelology, and viticulture from France. She gained experience in Sicily and Burgundy before becoming Assistant Winemaker at the Magoni Estate in Baja.

The name, Pouya, is an homage to her great-grandfather, a French scientist who fell in love with Baja. Fernanda’s personal project is an expression of her heritage and love for Baja’s terroir.
