IL Palazzone Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

Il Palazzone Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • With vineyards in three areas of Montalcino, at different altitudes and exposures, the vineyard is able to bottle all the complimentary aspects of Montalcino terroir into its traditional style of Brunello.
  • Brunello di Montalcino is made exclusively from 100% Brunello Sangiovese grapes, a varietal bred specifically for its ability to age long and well.
  • The D.O.C.G. regulations governing the production of Brunello require a minimum of 6 months bottle aging before release.

Varietal Composition: 100% Sangiovese

Elaboration: Aged 36 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. Bottle aging 6 months before release.

Tasting Notes: The nose immediately offers an ample, ripe bouquet of sottobosco and herbaceous notes joined by a whiff of sun dried tomatoes. After some aeration more subtle notes of cherry, violets, and a hint of button mushrooms present themselves. The structure is firm with pleasantly grained tannins. This is expertly balanced by a juicy fruitiness and delightful acidity illustrating that a powerful wine need not renounce elegance. The initial sensory impressions are repeated on the palate and stay for many minutes in a never ending finish.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Il Palazzone, a boutique winery minutes from the town of Montalcino, produces Brunello di Montalcino in a traditional style. Owners, Kirsten and Peter Kern who  are originally from the U. S., grow grapes in three separate areas allowing for the fullest and most balanced expression of Montalcino’s diverse terroir and microclimates. In addition, the vineyard adjacent to the cantina is a very special, high altitude parcel, a portion of which has been bottled as the cru Le Due Porte since 2015. The estate also produces Rosso del Palazzone, a versatile 100% Sangiovese non-vintage wine.
