Quinta da Romaneira Pulga White

Quinta da Romaneira Pulga White

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Quinta da Romaneira Pulga is a magnificent example of all the potential of these great white varieties of Douro when cultivated in a large terroir of vineyards such as o da Pulga.
  • The entire Romaneira vineyard estate is classified “A” (the highest mark that can be obtained in the Douro) and the house focuses almost completely on unfortified dry wines and vintage style port.

Varietal Composition: 50% Boal, 33% Viosinho and 17% Rabigato.

Elaboration: 100% of the wine is fermented in French oak barrels, 60% new oak, 40% first year, for a period of 21 days, at temperatures between 16 and 18ºC. This is followed by a batonnage period of 4 months and a partial malolactic fermentation. Selected yeasts are used. The three varieties are harvested and vinified separately.

The wine is aged in barrels for four months after the alcoholic fermentation year. During this time, FML and the batonnage were completed to measure.

Tasting Notes: Quinta da Romaneira Pulga is the supreme expression of white wine from Romaneira. It is a complex wine that combines the typical freshness of two Romaneira whites, with a depth of flavor and complexity of structure.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

The 1,100 acre spread of Quinta da Romaneira is widely considered one of the Douro Valley’s most breathtaking estates.  The winery began producing port in 1872, but was not legally allowed to bottle under its own name until 1986 when DO changes gave single quintas the authority to do so.

Christian Seely purchased Romaneira in 2004 with plans to put the winery shoulder to shoulder with the Douro’s top names in terms of reputation and quality.  Seely and winemaker Antonio Agrellos understand what such ambition means – They are the dynamic duo behind the much celebrated rebirth of another great property, Quinta do Noval (which sits literally next door), which they’ve operated for the past twenty years.

The entire Romaneira vineyard estate is classified “A” (the highest mark that can be obtained in the Douro) and the house focuses almost completely on unfortified dry wines and vintage style port.
