Quinta da Romaneira Vintage Port

Quinta da Romaneira Vintage Port 2019

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Quinta da Romaneira wines always have an aromatic intensity that is particular to this great wine terroir.
  • Quinta da Romaneira had perfect conditions for this vintage, allowing them to choose the right moment for each plot and harvest and vinify with great precision.
  • The 2019 Vintage Port was barreled in used Port wine wooden vats (Tonéis).

Varietal Composition: 70% Touriga Nacional, 27% Touriga Francesa, 3% Sousao

Elaboration:  The grapes were trodden by foot and with robotic plungers in the stainless steel presses of the winery, and fermented with temperature control at 28°C, where disciplined and intense treading is essential for a good final result.

20 months in the Quinta’s cellars, in the Douro Valley demarcated region, before bottling. It must mature in the bottle for 8 to 15 years before reaching the complexity and characteristic bouquet of a Vintage.

Tasting Notes:  2019 Vintage Port from Roma neira is seductive, charming and very expressive, with great depth and aging potential. Deep dark purple with intense aromatic personality, spices, forest fruits, violet. Great elegance, pure fruit flavors, fleshy velvety tannins, powerful and with a very long finish.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

The 1,100 acre spread of Quinta da Romaneira is widely considered one of the Douro Valley’s most breathtaking estates. The winery began producing port in 1872, but was not legally allowed to bottle under its own name until 1986 when DO changes gave single quintas the authority to do so. Christian Seely purchased Romaneira in 2004 with plans to put the winery shoulder to shoulder with the Douro’s top names in terms of reputation and quality. Seely and winemaker Antonio Agrellos understand what such ambition means – They are the dynamic duo behind the much celebrated rebirth of another great property, Quinta do Noval (which sits literally next door), which they’ve operated for the past twenty years.
