Ruby Vineyard Chardonnay Laurelwood

Ruby Vineyard Chardonnay

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Ripe & rich with enough complexity to last for days. This Chardonnay showcases the greatness of cool-climate viticulture.
  • This Chardonnay consists of Dijon clones 76, 95 and 96 which all are planted in Laurelwood soil in the Chehalem Mountains AVA in the Willamette Valley. The vines are planted at elevations of 400 – 950 feet.

Varietal Composition: 100% Chardonnay

Elaboration: Picked early to retain natural acidity and freshness in the wine. The grapes are gently pressed as whole clusters, then the juice is left to settle for 24 hours. The wine then barrel ferments in stainless steel and French oak barrels. Battonaged once or twice as primary fermentation slows, with monthly stirring until malolactic fermentation is complete. After spending one year in barrel, final elevage is in stainless steel.

Tasting Notes: Subtle stone fruit interplay with tropical notes on the palate while a distinct nutty and cream aromas jump out of the glass, this wine shows just why Oregon Chardonnay continues to set the standard for the category.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Ruby Vineyard is a small, vineyard and winery in the Chehalem Mountains of Oregon’s Willamette Valley region. It is owned by the Hendricks family and is located in the Laurelwood District AVA, just west of Portland.

The Hendricks family has deep roots in Oregon. In 1843, Steve Hendricks’ great-great-grandfather, Abijah Hendricks, arrived in Oregon on the first wagon train to brave the Oregon Trail. Abijah’s adventurist spirit lives on in Steve and his wife Flora. Sharing a dream of owning a vineyard and making wine, they have explored every aspect of the winemaking process, from driving a tractor to pouring for guests in the tasting room.
