Weingut Esterhazy Estoras Grüner Veltliner

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The winery is located in the Burgenland municipality of Großhöflein on the southern slope of the Leithaberg in the Leithaberg wine-growing region.
  • Leithaberg DAC is always mineral-driven and relatively robust in character.
  • Nature-friendly cultivation is highly important for all Esterházy’s wines.

Varietal Composition: 100% Green Valtellina

Elaboration: Selected grapes are fermented in different batches cooled at 19 ° Celsius and then left for 9 months on the fine lees in steel tanks. This gives the wine its elegant structure and fine enamel.

Tasting Notes: Light straw yellow, yellow apple and peach on the nose, with slightly smoky, mineral notes. The palate is characterized by elegant acidity paired with a fine fruity sweetness. In addition, subtle yeast notes give the wine a firm, very elegant structure.

“Peardrop, green Conference pear and a lovely lime zest notion are vivid on the nose. The palate adds slight creaminess and a yeasty, slightly salty texture, roudning out this fresh, light, dry and savory wine.” – Anne Krebiehl, Wine Enthusiast

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Wine-growing has been part of the House of Esterházy for more than 250 years, and it has evolved to today‘s standard of quality with the opening in 2006 of a state-of-the-art new winery near Eisenstadt.

Nature-friendly cultivation is highly important for all Esterházy’s wines. They avoid the use of herbicides and insecticides, practicing natural methods that animate the vines to root deeply in the soils. The “Leithakalk”, a unique regional marine limestone, lends minerality and structure to the wines.

Organic methods are used daily in the vineyards. For example, during the bud break phase, they spray fine seaweed dust mixed with sulfur and copper for the mineral strengthening of the vines. The diversity of the sites, the different soils, and the climatic particularities define Esterházy wines as special representatives of the region.
