Tesch Konigsschild Riesling

Tesch Konigsschild Riesling

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Very Elegant and Precise Riesling.
  • Lime, limestone and chalk provide high calcium levels. To the south of the LÖHRER BERG we find the calcareous limestone mixed with loess and river loam that form the KÖNIGSSCHILD.
  • The roots of the old grape vines follow the seeping water as far as 15 m (50 ft) into the ground, helping to keep the soil loosely packed.
  • The vineyard’s name likely comes from its former ownership to the Imperial Palace in Ingelheim, the winter residence of Charlemagne.

Varietal Composition: 100% Riesling

Elaboration: Deep roots, old vines, environmentally friendly viticulture and careful harvesting of the grapes by hand. Gentle, artisan aging and bottling in particularly sustainable packaging in the cellar. The screw cap protects the wine perfectly and enables reliable maturation of the wine.

Tasting Notes: The Rieslings grown here flaunt a bouquet of floral scents and a coy nature, especially in their youth. The flavors are soft, elegant and refined.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Since 1723, Weingut Tesch has been a family-owned winery in Langenlonsheim, located in the Nahe region of Southwest Germany. The year, 2023, marks the wine estate’s 300th year of winemaking excellence. The winery is known far and wide for its highly rated Rieslings.

Current owner, Dr. Martin Tesch, represents the eleventh generation of his family to lead the business. With a degree in microbiology, he started working for his parents in 1996 and took over when his father retired. In 2001, Martin began reinventing the estate, going back to basics and primarily producing dry Rieslings, bottled without any intervention.
