Weingut Wohlmuth Sauvignon Blanc Südsteiermark

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The Weingut Wohlmuth Sauvignon Blanc Südsteiermark is a dry white wine made from hand-picked grapes.
  • Südsteiermark, or Southern Styria, is a small wine producing region on the southern border of Austria. The unique climate and terroirs perfectly suited to the production of crisp, aromatic white wines.
  • It is one of Austria’s DACs (Districtus Austriae Controllatus), a legal designation of quality wine.
  • The grapes are grown in soil made up of paleozoic red shale. Drink this wine at a temperature of 12 °C or 56°F.

Varietal Composition: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Elaboration: Very late and selective manual harvest, short maceration, very slow and gentle pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation at around 21°C in stainless steel tanks. Subsequent batonage and aging on the fine lees.

Tasting Notes: Ripe yellow and red fruits, paprika, has power, skillfully plays with ripe, warm and cool mineral aromas, spirited – the Wohlmuth classic!

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Kitzeck im Sausal is a village that deserves high praise. That’s because it boasts the highest-in-elevation wine estates in Austria. But it takes more than a mountaintop to create great wine. It takes many generations of the Wohlmuth family who have been making 100% single-estate-grown wine here since 1803!
