Woop Woop Cabernet Sauvignon
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Sourced from low-yielding vineyards on welld rained sandy loam soils in the Riverland and the cooler higher altitude of Currency Creek. The ripe red fruits of the warmer Riverland region are enhanced by the vibrant lifted berry fruit of the cooler region, enhancing natural acidity.
Varietal Composition: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Elaboration: Harvested, destemmed and crushed to 25 tonne fermenters. Starting with warm fermentation temperatures to extract tannin and color, the ferments were then cooled to maximize the retention of fruit aromatics and flavors.
Tasting Notes: Deep brick red with purple hues, this Cabernet Sauvignon captures the ripe fruit aromatics of red berries, red plum with a hint of eucalyptus. The palate is bursting with bright red fruit flavors, and the juicy mid-palate enhanced by abundant ripe tannins. Lingering red fruits, French oak characters show signs of richer complex dark fruit characters that will continue to evolve with further maturation.
Woop Woop, which is Australian slang for the middle of nowhere, is a project from winemaker Ben Riggs, who is responsible for literally hundreds of excellent Australian wines made over the last couple of decades. With minimal oak treatment, the Woop Woop lineup of Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Shiraz showcase their varietal representation with Aussie terroir being a focal point. All made in a light-to-medium bodied style, these wines are perfectly suited to year-round consumption.
