Thanisch Bernkasteler Lay Kabinett Cuvee Christina

Thanisch Bernkasteler Lay Kabinett Cuvee Christina

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The name says it all for the wines from the “Lay” vineyard. They are very mineral, elegant and fine wines with a lot of play and drinking flow.
  • The wines of the Bernkasteler Badstube are grown on very steep south pointing Devon slate vineyards in the picturesque Mosel Valley of Germany. Grown on old (20-40 years) mostly non-grafted rootstocks.
  • This is the flagship and the main wine people look for when seeking Thanisch.

Varietal Composition: 100% Riesling

Elaboration: All grapes are handpicked and selected. Aged in new and old oak barrels. Very fresh, clear and mineral – a typical Kabinett from a classic Kabinett year!

Tasting Notes: Very fresh, clear and mineral – a typical Kabinett from a classic Kabinett year!

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

The Thanisch family has cultivated wine since the year 1636 and can look back on a history covering almost 400 years. Today the estate is run as a family business in the 11th generation, of which the last four generations were women. The first woman leading the estate was Katharina Thanisch, who was one of the VDP founding members in 1910. Today the estate is managed by Sofia Thanisch. The label is a very Classic Art Nouveau Etiquette from 1901 and depicts the estate, the town of Bernkastel and the Doctor vineyard in the background.
